How do I commission Barry to paint a piece for me?

Is the work framed?

The completed artwork can be delivered either framed or unframed.

It may be practical to ship the painting unframed and for the client to get it framed locally.

Barry likes to present his water based works behind non reflective glass in a suitable frame using archival materials.

Barry is happy to advise on framing requirements and suggest a quality framer if required.

What is the general process for getting a painting done?

Get in contact with Barry to discuss your vision and needs. 

You are encouraged to be part of the process and when each party is satisfied with the requirements, you will receive a quote for the piece.  

If you wish to proceed with the commission you will be asked to pay a deposit and then Barry will commence the work. 

Barry usually works from photographs to produce his works and these photos can either be supplied by you or Barry can arrange with you to take the images.

On the completion of the piece you have the opportunity for a viewing and any adjustments required are completed before it is sent to the framers. You may be involved in the choice of the frame at this stage if you wish.

Delivery of the piece is arranged after the framing.

How long does it take to get the completed painting from Barry?

This will depend on a number of factors including the size of the work, the medium used, the complexity of the subject, whether the work is framed or unframed and his work commitments. A general time line for his process is approximately 6-8 weeks.

What is the price for a piece?

The price for each piece will vary according to the needs of the client. 

The size of the work, the medium and the complexity of the subject are major factors influencing the price. 

Barry is happy to advise you of your options if you are working to a budget.

What medium will the piece be painted in?

This is discussed at the beginning of the process and Barry will paint the piece using only the highest quality art products. 

Barry paints in all water based mediums including water mixable oils, acrylics, watercolour and gouache. 

He also likes to incorporate pure 24 carat gold leaf into his work.
